Credit Card Rewards Calculator

Is my credit card's annual fee worth the rewards?

A card's reward rate is advertised in points, and points are not rupees. What matters is how many rupees a point is worth when you redeem it, and whether a year of rewards covers the annual fee. Enter your real monthly spend and the card's own numbers.

How It's Calculated

Points a year = monthly spend × 12 ÷ 100 × points per ₹100

The value of those points is points × paise per point ÷ 100. Take off the annual fee to see what the card really gives back.

The effective reward rate is that yearly value as a percentage of what you spent to earn it, which is usually lower than the rate the card advertises.

Worked Example

If you enter

  • Monthly spend on the card₹30,000
  • Points earned2 per ₹100
  • Value per point25 paise
  • Annual fee₹500

You get

  • Reward value after the fee₹1,300
  • Effective reward rate0.50%
  • Reward value a year₹1,800
  • Points a year7,200

Common Questions

How much is 1 credit card reward point worth in rupees?

On most Indian cards a point is worth 20 to 25 paise. Some premium and travel cards value a point at 50 paise to 1 rupee, usually when you redeem for flights or hotels. Each card states its own value in its rewards terms, and the table on this page shows it for popular cards.

How do I calculate the value of my credit card points?

Multiply the points by the value of one point. 10,000 points at 25 paise are worth 2,500 rupees. To compare a points card with a cashback card, multiply the points earned per 100 rupees by the value of a point: 4 points per 100 rupees at 25 paise is 1 rupee back per 100 rupees spent, a 1% reward.

How do I find what a point is worth?

Divide the rupee value of something in the rewards catalogue by the points it costs. A 1,000 point voucher worth Rs 250 makes a point worth 25 paise. Cards vary enormously: airline transfers can be worth over a rupee a point, while catalogue merchandise is often under 20 paise.

The rate looks lower than the card advertises. Why?

Because the advertised figure counts points, not their value. Five points per Rs 100 sounds like 5%, but at 25 paise a point it is 1.25%. The rate shown here is the one that would appear on your bank statement if the reward were cash.

Should I cancel a card whose fee is not covered?

Not automatically. Many fees are waived on crossing a spend threshold, and closing an old card shortens your credit history and cuts your total limit, both of which can lower your score. Downgrading to a free variant of the same card usually keeps the history and drops the fee.

Do welcome bonuses count?

Not in this calculation, deliberately. A joining bonus is once and the fee is every year, so including it makes year one look permanent. If the bonus decides it for you, compare it against the fee for a single year only.
