How It's Calculated

GST = price before GST × rate ÷ 100

To take GST out of a price that already includes it, the price before GST is the inclusive price ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100); the difference is the GST.

Within one state the GST is split equally into CGST and SGST. Between states the whole amount is IGST. The total is the same either way.

Common Questions

What are the GST rates now?

Since 22 September 2025: 5% for essentials and many everyday goods and services, 18% as the standard rate, and 40% for luxury and sin goods such as pan masala and large cars. The old 12% and 28% slabs were removed. Gold and jewellery are 3%. Some items are exempt. The rate for a specific item is on the invoice or the CBIC rate list.

How do I remove GST from a price that already includes it?

Divide the price by 1 plus the rate. For ₹1,180 at 18%: 1,180 ÷ 1.18 = ₹1,000 before GST, so the GST is ₹180. Choose "Including GST" above and the calculator does this for you.

What is the difference between CGST, SGST and IGST?

They are how one GST is shared between governments. When buyer and seller are in the same state, half goes to the centre (CGST) and half to the state (SGST). Between states, the whole amount is IGST. The total you pay is the same.
