Lumpsum Calculator

What will a one-time investment grow to?

A lumpsum is invested once and left alone. Unlike a SIP, every rupee compounds for the full term, which is why the same amount invested at the start beats the same amount spread over years, when markets rise.

How It's Calculated

FV = P × (1 + r)ᵗ

P is the amount invested once, r the yearly return and t the number of years, compounded once a year. Returns are not guaranteed; the result shows what the rate you enter would produce.

Common Questions

Lumpsum or SIP, which is better?

If markets only ever rose, a lumpsum would always win, because every rupee compounds for longer. They do not. A SIP buys more units when prices fall, which protects you from investing everything on the worst possible day. The honest answer is that a lumpsum has the higher expected return and the higher regret risk.

Is the return guaranteed?

No. Nothing market-linked is guaranteed, and this is a projection from a rate you chose. Real returns vary year to year and can be negative. A fixed deposit is the product that guarantees a rate, and it pays less for that reason.

Should I wait for the market to fall before investing a lumpsum?

Most people who wait are still waiting when the market is higher. Timing an entry reliably is something professional investors struggle with. If the amount is large enough that a bad entry would genuinely upset you, splitting it over a few months is a reasonable compromise.
