How It's Calculated

Your monthly expenses grow by inflation every year until you retire. From then on, each month's expense (rising with inflation once a year) is discounted back to the day you retire at the return after retirement ÷ 12; their total is the money you need.

What you have saved grows at the return before retirement. The monthly SIP needed is the gap that remains, at the same return, invested at the start of each month.

Common Questions

How much money do I need to retire?

Enough to pay your expenses, rising with inflation, from the day you stop working until the age you plan for. This calculator works that out month by month, with the money still invested at the return after retirement.

Why two returns?

Before retirement most people can take more risk (more equity); after it, money usually moves to safer, lower-return options. A lower return after retirement needs a larger amount.

Does it count EPF, PPF or a pension?

Only what you enter as saved so far. Add your EPF and PPF balances there; a pension reduces the expenses you need to cover.
