Public holidays from the public India holidays calendar, refreshed every month; second and fourth Saturdays worked out by the rule RBI sets for every bank. State and regional holidays are not listed: they differ by state, so check with your branch.

Common Questions

Are banks closed on Saturdays?

On the second and fourth Saturday of every month, yes, across India. On the first, third and fifth Saturdays banks are open for the full day.

Are these holidays the same in every state?

No. The public holidays here are national ones; each state also has its own bank holidays (regional festivals and state days), which RBI publishes by region. Check with your branch before you plan around a state holiday.

Do UPI, NEFT and IMPS work on bank holidays?

UPI and IMPS work every day. NEFT and RTGS run all year too, though a cheque, a branch visit or anything that needs a person waits for the next working day.

Is a cheque cleared on a bank holiday?

No. Cheque clearing runs on working days, so a cheque deposited before a holiday is cleared on the next working day.
